Syrian government reaches deal with Kurdish SDS group

Syrian President Ahmed al-Shar'i announced an agreement with Syrian Democratic Forces commander Mazloum Abdi, which aims to integrate Kurdish areas into the Syrian state.

Key aspects of the agreement between Syria and the SDS:

All Syrians, regardless of their religion or national origin, have the right to participate in the political life of the country.

The Kurds are recognized as an integral part of Syria and their rights are protected by law.

Military operations will cease throughout Syria.

All state and military institutions in northern and eastern Syria, including border crossings, airports, and oil fields, will be under the control of the central government.

All refugees will have the opportunity to return to their homeland and their safety will be guaranteed.

Syria is supported in its fight against the remnants of the Assad regime and security threats.

Calls to divide Syria and promote hatred will be abandoned.

The committees will work until the end of the year to implement the agreement.

The agreement was signed after years of conflict between the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian government.

The Kurds have controlled oil-rich areas in the northeast, where there have been frequent clashes with government forces.

The SDS is a component of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (YPG/PKK group).
